The Salt of Life is the second film from writer/director/actor Gianni Di Gregorio, whose began his directorial career with 2010′s Mid-August Lunch. Gianni is sixty. He is retired but has not become lazy for all that. In fact he is a helpful fellow who gives a hand to all those who need one: shopping for his wife, walking the pretty neighbor’s dog, and so on. Everybody likes Gianni, but is it for the right reasons? Doesn’t his wife profit by the situation (she still works so it is only logical that Gianni do all the chores)? Isn’t he subject to the excruciating whims of his rich mother?… Sure, everybody LIKES Gianni, but who LOVES him? Agreed, being kind to them, he is the ladies pet, but he does not attract them anymore. That is why, when his macho lawyer friend Alfonso blames him for not having young mistresses “like every other senior Italian male”, Gianni, who is beginning to ask himself questions about what it is like to become old, starts chasing dames… (7:30PM)

Mid-August Lunch is a 2008 Italian comedy-drama and the directorial debut of Italian actor and screenwriter Gianni Di Gregorio. In Rome, Gianni leads a lazy life, a glass of wine at hand; his only job is caring for his mother in their condo. The administrator pays Gianni a visit on a hot August day because he hasn’t paid the condo fees in years; the association members want Gianni and his mother evicted. The visitor makes an offer: he wants to leave the city for ferragosto, a mid-August tradition, and asks to leave his mother in Gianni’s care in exchange for writing off some of the debt. Gianni and his mother agree to do it, and the administrator brings his mom – and his aunt. Then, Gianni’s doctor pays a call and asks the same favor. Can Gianni make the best of it, or are real surprises in store? (9:20PM)
